What do you love most about being a pro surfer, and what's the toughest part?
I love being able to travel the world doing something I love! There are a lot of obligations that make the job hard but at the end of the day no matter what I remind myself I am having fun doing my job, so in love :)

How do you mentally prepare yourself for a contest?
I don't like to mentally overdo myself so I try to take it lightly. There are several things I must do before events - sleep early, eat light, surf the contest site before the event...and I think just doing those few things get me into the mindset that I am ready. It's all about my surfing on the day and not anyone else's in the heat.

How do you describe your surfing style?
I hope my style of surfing comes across as grateful, powerful and progressive. I mean, that is what I am for for sure. Haha!

What do you like to do during your down time (when you're not surfing)?
When I'm not surfing - well it depends on where I am. During an event anywhere in the world I take it super mellow...probably spend more time than ever watching TV show, on Skype or taking it easy laughing all days with friends between free surfs. I don't like to over exert too much energy on off days during an event. Not during an event/at home between surfs I enjoy doing anything active - I can't not be doing something active for too long.

How long have you been on the women;s tour and how enjoyable is it?
I've been on tour now for five years and it's been one heck of a ride! I've learned so much ever since graduating high school and living my life on tour - traveling, learning to lose, learning to win, work with media, compete continuously and still be human!!! It is very enjoyable being able to surf around the world on such a platform that ASP gives us!

What's more inspiring to you at this moment, love and happiness or money and fame?
Love and happiness!!! Because with that comes success, which leads to money and fame I guess? And even if that philosophy of mine is incorrect, who needs money and fame when they've got happiness??!

What charities are you involved in?
The Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii. Such an amazing organization - it simply gives kids another place they belong. I love being someone younger kids can spend time with and look up to because I am one who was always so driven and inspired by others, whether it be someone I watched on movies or got to meet and actually hang around! I want to be that positive influence that helps the kids believe in their potential. That's all it really takes :)

Is there any place in the world you have not yet surfed but have always wanted to?
Tahiti! It's only five hours away form my home I don't know how I haven't been yet!!

What's the secret to your fit body?
Everything in moderation! I am an athlete so I treat my body like one. I eat proper meals - try my best to limit sweets and what isn't good for me but I am also human so I've learned.. "everything in moderation!" I also believe in doing something active every day - if I don't surf I definitely have to make up for it somewhere else, but I think that's also my personality. I've also just realized how much I am beginning to like yoga!

Fancy restaurant or local night club?
Fancy restaurant! I am all about good food!

What makes Volcom Women's so unique?
Volcom Women's is so unique because it covers every aspect of women's fashion - it's edgy, it can be very girly, athletic, fancy, casual and fun!!!

What do you wan the girls out there reading to never forget?
Hold your ground for what you believe in, be passionate in all you do, always remember there is someone out there to make proud, and never ever...for any reason, lose your dignity!!!

Costa Rica's Gold - Surf Team Goes South!
So we took a trip to Costa Rica to shoot our all-new Fall boardshorts & swimwear collections, and instead of ending the story right now with "and the rest is history," we'd like to give you a little insight into our majestic journey to the rugged Central American country. Enter Balaram Stack, Coco Ho, Nate Tyler, Maud Le Car, Ryan Burch, Quincy Davis, and Andrew "Droid" Doheny. Picture a desolate rainforest and narrow unstructured dirt roads echoed by a variety of bird chips and animal calls only to be triumphed by thoughts racing through your head of "where's the beach and how fast can we get there." 3,400+ miles from the nearest home in California, obvious transplants (no help from Balaram & Droid's bleached hair), and a crew full of expensive surfboards and camera equipment is your scene. photos by Tom Carey Quickly finding the way to our newly-found two-week home w/ an epic pool inside a quaint little village, we linked up with local legend Tony Roberts who is a mastermind that paved the way for the community down here by designing skateparks and running various surf tours. After ripping through some fun spots inside the village, and getting weird in the neighboring jungle, we hopped on a friend's boat and made our voyage to the famous Witch's Rock. For any surfer, Witch's is a bucket list mission and our journey there was one for the books! Witch's Rock Our goal was to shoot the team in our new boardshorts and swimwear collections, get some rad action shots, explore the land, and simply have a good time on this journey through a quest for spiritual intoxication. And we got that. But we got more, a lot more. Take a ride with us through a captivating feel-good photo book from our Costa Rican adventure: Droid: pro surfer, pro model.  Maud Le Car (left)Coco Ho (center)Quincy Davis (right) Coco Ho Ryan Burch w/ one of his hand-shaped mystical twin fins Quincy Davis (left)Coco Ho (middle)Maud Le Car (right) Quincy Davis       Buddies Oh hey, Quincy Droid rips! Bob & Sink: The Trial and Error of Ryan Burch
Ryan Burch looks at things differently "outside of the box” you could definitely say when considering conventional board design? He tests these theory’s quite like no other by creating and shaping them and proving these designs sucessfully in all types of conditions.Fitting in at Mundaka ever so smooth while here at the end of last year testing a board made at a friends shop in Irun in the Basque Country.
