Stop #4 of North American WITP Tour

Wild In The Parks loaded up the van and traveled to Greenwood Skatepark in American Fork, UT for stop #4

Over the past 5 years the WITP tour has found itself in the skate rich city of American Fork, Utah. The Greenwood Skatepark has become a solid training facility for the entire Salt Lake City skate community. It is amazing to see the progression that is happening here. With each passing year the youth continues to go from the basics, to mind blowing maneuvers. Through the combination of great skateparks, dedication, and the local skate veterans paving the way for the next generation, it’s easy to see why Utah is boasting some of the best up and coming ams in the industry.

The 14 & Under Division was standing on the front lines to get the contest started. They had a mission and the objective was total destruction of all three zones that were indicated during the contest debriefing. Tanner Oliver had his orders and followed through with precision. He started things off with a bs tailslide big spin out in zone 3, then took care of zone 2 with the combination of a tre flip up the euro to smith 180 out on the end ledge, and shook the ground with a huge bs big spin down the 8 stair to receive 1st place. Marcus Helmer took 2nd wowing the judges with a tweaked out air walk down the stairs and a nosepick style nose grind on the flat ledge to name a few. Deng Tear tore though the pack with solid lipslides and grinds to find his way into 3rd.

The 15 & Over Division was the next line of defense to step into the drop zone and handle business. Trevor Mason pulled out the tools of his trade and dropped the hammer from the start. He had a plan and followed through with a fs smith kickflip out in zone 3, a fs smith 360 flip out in zone 2, and smoothed out the edges with a bs tail biggie out down the zone 1 handrail to capture 1st place. Aiden Chamberlain was hot on his heels with a bs 180 nosegrind, 360 flip down the set and a fs 5-0 to sw bs crooks locking in a 2nd place standing. Jake Johnson handled the style side of things landing a striking fs feeble bs 180 out on the down rail in zone 1 standing 3rd place as the dust cleared from the skatepark.

It was now time for the Open Division to pick up the pieces left behind and really tear though the park. Brodie Penrod had set his goal to continue domination in the Utah region. It is hard to deny his talents that were on full display as the crowd cheered him on. He started the finals off with a bs 180 kickflip nosegrind to regular, then handled a kickflip bs tail kickflip to fakie on the down rail and finished things out with a half Cab noseslide to bs tailslide kickflip to fakie just as the overtime seconds expired. Needless to say, Brodie’s video game caliber tricks landed him in 1st place for the second year in a row. Tyson Bowerbank battled to the end with a kickflip bs 5-0 fs 1, a bs smith bs 180 sw crooked to regs and a last second bs 360 big flip that had judges scratching their heads in disbelief. Tyson missed the win by only a point to receive a well deserved 2nd place. Jordan Brown followed their lead and put down a kickflip bs tailslide and took flight down the set as flicked a perfect varial heelflip to round out the Open Division’s top 3.

Austrian Rider Roli Tschoder stretches his back leg over the Kaunertal access road
Here’s a short edit showing how amazing the conditions are up at Kaunertal Glacier right now, only 40 minutes from the Volcom Snow Team house. There’s hardly anyone around, aside from the like-minded, the park is in mint condition, you can ride from 3200 to 2000m and there’s even pow on offer. Way better conditions now  than in December/January.  Roli from Ischgl certainly has his priorities straight.. But unless you can ride like Roli, the we recommend you spare the stretching until you’re safely back on the ground again.  Now run to the hills… Pic and edit by Flo Achenrainer

Retrospection video by Olivier Gittler and Arthur Longo
If you plan on only seeing ONE snowboard video this year, then here you have it. Volcom lifer Olivier Gittler and his trusty collaborator Arthur Longo just put together a full length edit of all their Instagram short clips from the winter past.. In it you’ll see their unique take on snowboarding. And as you’ll watch you’ll slowly realise that “higher and further”’ isn’t always the goal. That it is just as much about the right turn at the right place at the right time. Or a backflip? And another backflip.. Backflips are never wrong. At times it might even look like the boys are bored with their day job (?!?) as they seem to be surfing more than snowboarding. But why not? Therein lies the beauty of this edit.. Get out off the park and look at what’s hidden behind it.  Or even IN it, as you follow our friends and their friends, finding park lines yet to be thought of.. Or making their own park outside of the park.. This is truly beautiful Olivier .. Please do even more of what you’re already doing.  Filmed on location in Les Des Alpes, Kitzsteinhorn, Chamonix, US Open, Arlberg and more Music: Leopard Ale IG: @leopard_ale

Volcom Stone Presents BARNEY - Watch Now!
Movie Description: A candid film collage celebrating the incomparable Shawn “Barney” Barron. Not only was Barney the innovative surfer whose acrobatic agility perfectly matched the superhero wetsuits he often wore, he was also an artist, comedian, son, brother, and true friend who lived and breathed laughs and creativity into everything he did. Despite the challenges of his bipolar disorder, he maintained an infectiously positive attitude, irrefutable love for life, and endless generosity that brightened the lives of all who knew him. His spirit reminds us that now is all we have… It reminds us to live now to the fullest. Shawn "Barney" Barron (photo: Tom Carey) Barney was known for his superhero-style wetsuits. VOLCOM BANKED SLALOM KITZSTEINHORN 2016
The 3rd edition of the Volcom banked slalom at Kitzsteinhorn was another one to put in the books! It all started with a good snow dump before the weekend that made shapers shovel extra hard, but also stoked out some early arrival competitors with some powder turns. It continued with two consecutive days of sunshine, allowing everyone to shred the snowparks in between race runs with the best conditions you could get. This year’s course was again just over 1min, so legs, hearts and breath were reasonably tested, but depending on your finish time your ego could be severely tested, especially if you’re a seasoned guide from Chamonix or a quad-corking park ripper and you get beaten by a 17 years old girl, which can happen in this kind of event. Some legends and pros were on the start list along with locals, speed freaks from all over Europe and snowboarding enthusiasts which made for a great mix of people and a great weekend! Check out the photos and full results below! The day ended with the Volcom Castle Rock Out, a massive party at the medieval castle of Kaprun, starting with The Black Tambourines, playing their party fueled garage rock from London, and continuing with headliners Mozes And The Firstborn from Netherlands, partying with everyone while playing and finishing with DJ Stephan Rathgeb who kept the spirits high and Austrian refreshments flowing all nite.
